World Liver Day 19th April 2024

Keep your liver healthy and disease-free

World Liver Day is celebrated globally on April 19. The day focuses on increasing awareness of liver-related problems and diseases. The liver is one of the vital organs, responsible for immunity, digestion, and metabolism. Any liver disease or sickness affects not only the digestive system, but also the kidneys, lungs, heart, and brain. Excess fat accumulation can also have an impact on liver health. Some common symptoms of liver disease include loss of appetite, abdominal pain, jaundice, and weight loss. World Liver Day is dedicated to encouraging everyone to live a healthier lifestyle.

The theme for World Liver Day 2024 is “Keep your liver healthy and disease-free”. This year’s theme emphasises the necessity of regular health check-ups to prevent liver-related disorders.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) introduced World Liver Day to raise awareness about liver disease and encourage investment in liver disease research. It was first formally commemorated on April 19, 2012, and has since grown in popularity. Every year, different health organisations, hospitals, and liver treatment institutes host a variety of programmes and activities to honour this day.
